Plant & Operations Manager, Changshu
1. Our Understanding of the Background
Our client has been manufacturing quality products for the plumbing industry. The company's market leading products include solvent cement for joining plastic pipe and fittings, vent stack roof flashings, solder and flux for joining copper pipe, washing machine and ice maker outlet boxes, air admittance valves, residential and commercial drains and other related plumbing specialty products. The products can be found in residential and commercial applications and have achieved excellent brand name recognition with consumers and wholesalers.
Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, the company has 6 plants and 9 distribution centers, and employees about 1200 associates. Key customers include the Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Wolseley / Ferguson Enterprises, Hughes Supply, and other retail and wholesale groups.
The company currently has a sales office in Shanghai with two employees. It plans to build a plant in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. The operation in Changshu will be an injection molding and assembly plant. It will initially starts with about 20 employees in the first year, but plan by year 3 to be up to 120 including managers of the combined operation.
2. Position Profile
Position Summary:
Responsible for all manufacturing activities. Meet and maintain the manufacturing facility's processes and procedures to conform to company's safety, quality and productivity goals. Build and maintain good associate relations and an environment of continuous improvement of team work, quality, productivity and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage plant productivity & profitability using a CIP (Continuous Improvement Process) process that identifies:
Production priorities
Daily action plans
Coordinating activities between the plant, engineering project requirements & maintenance schedules
Supply Chain coordination and efficiency
- Manage the manufacturing budget through the CIP systems. Initiate and achieve process improvements to ensure that direct to indirect labor ratios are maintained and that earned labor hours are at or above standard on a daily basis; monitor and adjust department spending.
- Implement safety programs and manage plant safety including monthly safety meetings, safety training, evacuation drills and emergency response teams & ongoing safety priorities throughout the day.
- Comply with corporate and global industrial product quality standards and procedures, including establishing and maintaining an ISO9001 compliant system, to ensure consistency of quality, safety, and an environment of continuous improvement.
-Work with and support the HR Manager to insure implementation of HR policy and procedures, administration of performance & attendance record systems, pay rates, disciplinary actions and associate counseling when necessary.
- Coach, motivate and train department supervisors on problem solving, employee relations and satisfaction, leadership, and general management skills.
- Communicate with all plant associates on a regular basis to share performance results, organizational information, and general problem resolution through group participation.
- Facilities management of the property including the plant, offices, grounds and equipment.

- Bachelor's Degree in Management or Engineering plus additional training in related courses of study (e.g. ISO 9001, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Just-In-Time Manufacturing, etc.). MBA or MA preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in a manufacturing management with injection molding processes, equipment and operations.
- Experience or training for Scientific Molding desirable as well as hands operational experience.
- Must possess strong leadership skills and communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Must be fluent in Mandarin and English, both written and conversational
- Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, coaching, diplomacy, conflict resolution.
- PC literate in Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel & PowerPoint. Working knowledge or MRP or ERP systems.
